I run a J17LM in my Jiffy model 30. The difference between plugs are= The R is a resistor style plug=only for radio interference which they want you to run in Canada. In the USA i use a NON-Resistor plug. The J17LM plug runs Colder then a J19LM plug. that is the difference. A spark plug is designed to remove heat from the engine like.

The Model 30 was notorious for having to be primed while running and that was from improper metering level adjustment. In a nutshell not enough fuel getting into the carb and the engine starved for gas. This adjustment is very sensitive. Metering lever should be flush with the floor of the carb body. I've found that a hair above that to be better.

Ya I have a Jiffy 30 too. Got it about the first year the yellow ones Legend came out. Love it but I just can't help looking at those propane ones. I have a 9" auger and it is the perfect size for me. I saw a 9" propane one at FF for $497. More than the wife said I can spend this year since I just bought a new gun.

When I bought my Jiffy model 30 8 or so years ago they had first come out with the new sealed carbeurators. I had 2 model 31's and a model 30 with the new sealed carb. They all had problems. ... Finally the guy at Scheels found a last year's model 30 with the old style adjustable carbeurtor. I bought that one and have not had any problems.

My Jiffy Model 30 was purchased in 1991 and runs better than it did when it was new. I'm NOT a small engine repair guy. I few years ago it was giving me problems. Turns out it was a few things including old/bad gas and poorly adjusted jets. It idled rough and struggled to smoothly reach high speed.

Not sure what model he's going to get (he's leaning electric) but I told him that since so many guys are upgrading to the new Solo motors, a used 2hp Techumseh SM are easy to find for around $200-250. That's the way I would go. Hope this helps, good luck.

I visited the Jiffy site and find while the model 30 operating instructions state a 24:1 fuel mix and the model 30 itself has a label that says 24:1. the Web site FAQ states emphaitcally to use 40:1 mixture. I have sent the web site an inquiry to strighthen this out and will respond when I get a reply.

Looking for some help, bought a jiffy gas auger model 30 last year 10" auger new from cabelas. Starts right up and idols fine. I like the power of the 3 hp, but next time, I'll do a 2.5 hp or 2 hp model Jiffy. New Jiffy models will be out soon. It will be interesting to see what changes, most certainly lighter models. The days of the new 2-stoke 3 hp models are over. But I still expect to see the existing 3 hp's running strong tell the end of my life on the ice.
